La Mezquita de Córdoba

La Mezquita means “the mosque”.  While Spain was being ruled by the African the main religion was Islam and in this same location was a massive empty.  In 1592 the Europeans got the upper hand, tore down the mosque and build a catholic cathedral in its place.  It is still known as La Mezquita, however.

Our tour guide Manuel got us audio machines so we could hear him explain what we were seeing without being loud and without us having to remain super close to him.  It was a pretty cool experience and La Mezquita was absolutely beautiful.
